U.S. President Donald Trump and his Turkish counterpart had a phone conversation during which they called for joint actions against Islamic State in the Syrian towns of al-Bab and Raqqa, Reuters reported quoting Turkish sources. 

 The leaders of the two countries discussed issues including a safe zone in Syria, crisis of refugees and fight against terrorism.

According to the sources, Erdogan urged the United States not to support the Syrian Kurdish YPG militia.

At the same time the White House said that Trump declared about the two countries' "shared commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms" and welcomed Turkey's contributions to the fight against Islamic State.

As the offices of both leaders noted, Trump reiterated U.S. support for Turkey "as a strategic partner and NATO ally."
