The number of Turks seeking asylum increased dramatically after the failed coup attempt in the country. During the first two months of this year 1,115 Turkish asylum seekers were registered in Germany.
Since the beginning of 2017, more than 1,100 Turks applied for refugee status in Germany. The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees registered 1,151 applications from residents of Turkey only in January and February this year, DW reported quoting der Funke Mediengruppe.
At the end of January, around 40 NATO servicemen from Turkey, most of which have high military ranks, asked for a political asylum in Germany.
Later it became known that from August, 2016 to January, 2017 more than 130 owners of the Turkish diplomatic passports requested asylum in Germany.
