U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson met Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his one-day visit to Turkey, Reuters reported.

During the closed-door meeting, the Turkish President and U.S. Secretary of State were expected to discuss the fight against Islamic State, including the planned offensive against its Syrian stronghold of Raqqa. Other details of the meeting are not reported.

Earlier, the Secretary of State also met Prime Minister Binali Yildirim and discussed efforts to fight ISIS in Syria and Iraq, Yildirim's office said. The source in the U.S. Department of State noted that Tillerson emphasized “important role” of Turkey in regional security.
