U.S. president Donald Trump will sign an order on Friday, aimed at fighting ad collection of anti-dumping duties, White House National Trade Council Director Peter Navarro told reporters.
He noted that at least $2.8 billion in penalties on unfairly traded products have gone uncollected since 2001 as a result of importers evading the payments. China accounts for much of the problem since about one third of the more than 340 existing U.S. anti-dumping and countervailing duty orders currently in place are on Chinese goods, Reuters reported.
Navarro called the executive orders a “historic moment.”
“For the first time, we're looking at what's been the source of the large and persistent trade deficit that has contributed to job losses,” Navarro said.
