YEREVAN. – It is not important whether it was Armenia or the European Union that refused to sign association agreement four years ago, head of the EU delegation to Armenia Piotr Switalski told reporters on Monday.
His remark came in response to a reporter’s remark that Armenian president said it was EU that refused to sign the deal back in 2013, while the EU officials insist it was Armenia.
“Let's look to the future, I do not think it's time to look at the past and repeat the feelings that we had in 2013,” EU ambassador said.
The diplomat added that the new deal is very important and it differs from the Association Agreement. This is not a deep and free trade agreement, but the EU is guided by the aspirations of its partners.
According to him, both sides were willing to have a new quality agreement that would not hinder the commitments of any of the parties.
“This reflects all the opportunities we have at the moment, let's get the most out of this agreement. I would not want to analyze what happened four years ago,” he emphasized.
