U.S. President Donald Trump is pondering on recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, a move that may stir tension in the Middle East.

Trump is likely to declare his decision next week, Reuters reported quoting White House officials.

However, officials add that he is expected to again delay his campaign promise to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem.

“No decision has been made on that matter yet,” State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said on Thursday.

Jerusalem is home to Jewish, Christian and Muslim sites. Israel took control over the Jerusalem Old City in the aftermath of the June 1967 six-day war, a move that is not recognized internationally.
