YEREVAN. – The US Embassy in Yerevan has taken an active part in the formation of civil society in Armenia.

US Ambassador Richard Mills on Monday said the abovementioned at a public discussion devoted to the role of Armenia’s civil society in the formation of the state policy agenda and in ensuring accountable governance. 

In the ambassador’s words, they have also laid the foundation for establishing further contacts with the country’s civil society, and this contributes to the development of cooperation.

Mills noted that the US is implementing in Armenia a wide range of projects and events developed by the US Embassy in Yerevan.

He added that the diplomatic missions and their partners—that is, the World Bank and the European Union (EU)—in Armenia are interested, and that they are working towards the development of the opportunities for the civil society of the country.

At the same time, Richard Mills stated that, in his view, civil society should not only criticize, but also be constructive, and that this will be a factor in its effective functioning.
