Reuters news agency reported that a Western diplomat said on Tuesday that the United States has given China a draft resolution for tougher UN sanctions on North Korea, according to TASS Russian News Agency.

A senior official of the Trump administration confirmed efforts were underway to negotiate a new UN resolution, but added that there had been no agreement.

“We’re trying to get another one,” said the official, who did not want to be identified. “They’re not there yet.”

Reuters added that Washington has long been calling for Beijing to limit its oil supply to Pyongyang. The US has also called on the UN Security Council to blacklist ten ships for circumventing sanctions on North Korea.

The documents said these vessels had been conducting ship-to-ship transfers of refined petroleum products to North Korean vessels, or transporting North Korean coal, in violation of existing UN sanctions.
