Journalist Zafer Diper of BirGün newspaper of Turkey has reflected on the fact that even though a statue of renowned Armenian composer and clergyman Komitas—who has done a lot for Turkish music—is erected in Paris, there is no such statue in his place of birth, Kütahya, Turkey.

In his respective article, Diper considers Komitas to be not only a well-known composer, clergyman and folklore expert, but also one of the first specialists of ethnomusicology.

“Does he not deserve that a statue be erected also in his birthplace Kütahya for collecting and classifying Turkish classical music, folk songs, and delivering [them] us?” Zafer Diper asked. “It [the statue] is not erected [in Kütahya], since he is Armenian.”
