Azerbaijani police officers didn’t allow women to hold a protest against domestic violence on 8 March.

Turan reports that the organizers of the protest had intended to gather near the “Free Woman” statue at 14:00 and march towards the statue of Natavan.

At midday, police officers weren’t letting several dozens of women approach the statue and were stealing their posters.

After a long dispute, the police moved the women towards the metro station, but a dozen women continued to show resistance for nearly half an hour.

The “March 8: Go Against Violence” action was initiated by feminist women on Facebook. The general department of the police of Baku had warned the organizers that the illegal protest would be prevented.
