Indonesian political figure ‘Mikhail Gorbachev’, whose parents named him Mikhail Gorbachev in honor of the first president of the former USSR, is running for office in the country’s parliamentary elections, writes Gazeta, citing New Straits Times.
The Indonesian, whose full name is Mikhail Gorbachev Dom, is a former environmental researcher.
Mikhail Gorbachev Dom told New Strait Times that his parents were certain that they were going to have a girl, and when he was born, they panicked because they didn’t have a boy’s name ready. So, he went nameless for a week until the parents spotted the elder Gorbachev’s name in a newspaper. His father thought it was a cool name.
The Indonesian parliamentary elections are set for 17 April.
