NORAD's North American Aerospace Defense Command tracks Santa Claus' journey.
NORAD is the joint military command of the US States Canada, whose mission is to issue aerospace and marine warnings and controls throughout North America.
For over 60 years, it has been tracking Santa Claus’s journey in real time while his reindeer sleigh rides across the globe delivering gifts to children.
About 15 million unique visitors from over 200 countries and territories around the world visit www.noradsanta.org.
The NORAD tradition of tracking Santa began in 1955 when a department store in Colorado Springs accidentally printed a North Pole telephone number in a newspaper ad.
The first call came from a little girl, when US Air Force Colonel Harry Shope, director of the Continental Air Defense Command answered the call. The colonel assured the girl that Santa was on the road, and when even more children started calling the center, the military added a new task to their defensive mission.
Santa's travel watchers can now track Santa's whereabouts through NORAD's Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube accounts.
