YEREVAN. - Member states of the OSCE should refuse rhetoric on hatred and belligerence, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Arman Kirakosyan stated at the ongoing international conference “CSTO and the South Caucasus: prospects for peace and security in the region” in Yerevan on Friday.

According to him, painful compromises may be needed from the parties to achieve a lasting and final resolution of the conflict.

“One of the main tasks is preparing the society for such decisions. OSCE should respond to all cases inciting hatred and distrust via its executive agencies, such as Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR). It should act as an important tool to prevent the conflict,” he said.

Kirakosyan stressed that violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms is one of the main and direct causes of the conflict.

“Respect for inalienable rights, including the principle of people’s right to self-determination should be a priority for the conflict resolution,” Kirakosyan emphasized. “Fair implementation of rules and principles of human rights, such as a free democratic society, should be welcomed and encouraged by the OSCE and should not depend on the status of the territory. OSCE principles cannot be discriminated for the people of the OSCE area, living in conflict zones.”
