Judge Anna Danibekyan's decision was expected. Aram Vardevanyan, a lawyer of Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan, stated about this to reporters, after Wednesday’s publication of the aforementioned judge's decision on the defense’s motion for her self recusal.

As reported earlier, Judge Danibekyan, who presides over the trial of the criminal case against Kocharyan and several other former senior officials, has denied the motion.

"Of course, the decision was expected," the lawyer said, stressing that the prosecution had not made any substantive objections.

At the same time, Vardevanyan stated that the situation when there is a demand to hold a judge accountable cannot leave an impression of the given judge's objectivity and impartiality to an outside observer.
