YEREVAN. - No Escherichia coli infection cases were registered in Armenia, Armenia’s chief infection specialist Ara Asoyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“Last year, infection cases were registered in Armenia, but there were no fatalities. However, no case of lethal outbreak has been recorded in the country this year,” Asoyan said.

An outbreak of E. coli infection was first registered in Germany this May. Doctors believed it is harmful bacteria transmitted to humans through cucumbers grown in Spain. However, information was not confirmed. The E. coli outbreak in Europe appears to have been caused by sprouts grown on an organic farm in Germany. The death toll climbed to 24 in Germany.
