Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, together with the heads of Belgium, Denmark, Spain, and Poland, sent an official letter to the President of the Council of European Union leaders Charles Michel with an appeal to take urgent action to increase vaccine production capacity in Europe, Delfi reported.

The letter from the leaders of the states was sent on the eve of the session of the EU Council of Leaders, which will kick off on Thursday, at which the issues of vaccine production will also be resolved, the Lithuanian presidential administration said. 

The letter notes that Europe is still facing challenges due to insufficient supply of vaccines and disruptions in their production. With the emergence of new mutations of the coronavirus, there is a threat to the desire of member states to take control of the pandemic and return to normal life, the letter said.
