YEREVAN. – Today normalization of relations with Armenia and Karabakh conflict resolution are not primary issues for the Turkish authorities, political expert Richard Giragosian told a press conference in Yerevan on Tuesday.

Commenting on the results of Turkey’s parliamentary elections, the expert said, though the Justice and Development Party won the elections, the party led by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan fell short of a two-thirds majority in parliament. The expert added that it is noteworthy normalization process with Armenia and Karabakh conflict were not discussed during the elections. However, the expert believed it may have quite a negative impact as Turkish authorities may consider the issue “closed” not to be labeled as “traitors”.

Giragosian stressed public opinion on relations with Armenia is more inclined to normalization in Turkey, however the authorities have taken up an arrogant stance on the issue. He noted that Syrian and Libyan issues are of higher importance for Turkey than Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. According to surveys, Turks consider Iran a friendly country, whereas U.S. and Israel are believed to be enemies. Armenia is not included in the list, the expert emphasized.

In conclusion, Giragosian stressed that Turkey should understand the inefficiency of its stance and change its attitude. If it happens, negotiators from the Armenia are also likely to be replaced, he concluded.
