YEREVAN. – Armenian Catholicos’ visit to Georgia and Javakheci is an important event, member of ARF Dashnaktsutiun and the head of Armenian Cause Office, Giro Manoyan told the journalists on Tuesday.
Manoyan believes that the offer of Georgian authorities on granting legal status to Armenian and Georgian churches is naive. This is mentioned in the joint memorandum of Armenian and Georgian spiritual leaders.
“The main issue for the Armenian Catholicos to solve was to grant a legal status to the Armenian community in Georgia. As Georgia has Armenian spiritual centers, while there are no Georgian centers in Armenia,” stated Manoyan.
As to the issue on national belongings of the churches, which is also stated in the memorandum, there is no clear definition yet.
The Armenian and Georgian spiritual leaders signed a joint memorandum on equal establishment of the legal status of Armenian Apostolic church in Georgia and Georgian Orthodox church in Armenia.
