YEREVAN. – Eight-hundred thousand tourists are expected to visit Armenia in 2011, Economy Minister Tigran Davtyan stated during a meeting with representatives of the country’s tourism sector, on Monday.
Davtyan also informed that the number of tourists in Armenia increased by 13.5 percent, in the past ten months, and that this indicator will be surpassed by the year’s end. “If we maintain this rate, we would reach the symbolic threshold of ‘one million tourists’ in 2-3 years,” Davtyan said.
In line with official statistics, more than 550 thousand tourists have visited Armenia in January-September 2011, whereas this number was 490 thousand, for the same time period last year.
