The 5.9-magnitude earthquake on Wednesday morning damaged some buildings in Turkey's Malatya Province, but there were no casualties, informed the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) of the country.
Three buildings partially collapsed, but there were no casualties, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya told reporters.
The quake was felt also in the Syrian governorates of Al-Hasakah, Deir ez-Zor and Aleppo, the Syrian state news agency reports.
According to AFAD, the epicenter of this tremor was located in the Kale district, about 40 kilometers east of the city of Malatya.
AFAD, the police, and the gendarmerie conducted inspections throughout the region, including in the provinces of Diyarbakir, Sanliurfa, Elazig, Batman, and Tunceli, the agency said.
As a result of the earthquake, about 190 people were hospitalized in six provinces, and 43 of them are under medical supervision, Yerlikaya said.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre had reported that this quake had a magnitude of 6.1 and occurred at a depth of 9 kilometers.
