The European Union (EU) plans to redirect the amount of more than 120 million euros, which was allocated for the Georgian government, to other purposes. This was announced by Josep Borrell, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, at a press conference held in Brussels—and within the framework of the meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, DW reports.

Responding to the fact that the holding of parliamentary elections in Georgia in October confirmed that the country has moved away from democracy under the current government, the EU zeroed its support of the Georgian armed forces under the EU European Peace Facility, as well as canceled the allocation of 121 million euros directly to the Georgian government, Borrell noted.

Those funds will be redirected to the programs that benefit civil society and the Georgian people, the EU foreign policy chief added.

In addition, Brussels will send a political mission to Georgia to investigate in detail what happened in the aforesaid elections.
