The honorary chairman of the Georgian Dream party, Bidzina Ivanishvili, has announced the ruling party’s candidate for the next president of Georgia—and that candidate is Mikheil Kavelashvili, SOVA reports.

Kavelashvili is a retired footballer who has played in various clubs, including Manchester City.

Mikheil Kavelashvili is one of the leaders of the People's Power party, which is composed of the ruling party members who left the Georgian Dream party as a formality.

The next president of Georgia will be elected for a 5-year term by an Electoral College consisting of 300 members—including all members of the Parliament of Georgia, members of the parliament of Abkhazia, and members of the Adjara parliament and local government bodies.

The election of the next president of Georgia will be held on December 14.
