Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said that the country's authorities will not allow the scenario of the Ukrainian Maidan, Novosti-Georgia reports.

“Unlike Ukraine in 2013, Georgia is an independent state with strong institutions and, most importantly, experienced and wise people. The Maidan scenario cannot be realized in Georgia. Georgia is a state and will not allow it,” Kobakhidze said at a briefing today.

According to media reports, the Georgian Prime Minister held European politicians and “agents” responsible for the violence at pro-European protests in Tbilisi.

“The main responsibility for yesterday's violent rally lies on the relevant European politicians and bureaucrats, on the local agency, the fifth column, which is represented in the form of four political parties,” he said.

Kobakhidze assessed that on the night of November 30 in Tbilisi, the police prevented “an attack on the constitutional order of the country” and protected sovereignty and independence. He expressed gratitude to the officers and Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri.

On November 28, the authorities announced the removal of the issue of opening negotiations on the country's accession to the European Union from the agenda until 2028. This provoked a sharp reaction from supporters of European integration.

Large-scale spontaneous protests have been going on in different cities of Georgia for two days already. In Tbilisi, demonstrators are being dispersed by special forces. They are using water cannons, tear gas and pepper spray against them. The security forces are harassing and beating protesters and attacking journalists.

In two nights, 150 demonstrators have been detained in the Georgian capital, 107 just the day before. The number of injured also went into the hundreds. More than 20 media personnel are among them.
