The government in Tbilisi is waiting for European leaders to recognize the legitimacy of parliamentary elections in Georgia. Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated at a press conference today, Novosti-Georgia reports.

Journalists asked about the existence of any communication with European partners after the approval of the new government on November 28.

“We will wait until each country recognizes the legitimacy of the elections and, of course, this will allow us to activate bilateral relations. This is fundamentally important - everyone must accept the OSCE/ODIHR conclusion. We will wait for such recognition and after that, of course, we will be active with any country,” Kobakhidze stated.

Parliamentary elections were held in Georgia on October 26. According to the country's Central Election Commission, Georgian Dream won 89 out of 150 seats in the legislature. The rest were distributed among four coalitions of opposition parties.

Only the ruling party agrees with the official results. The opposition considers the elections rigged and has refused to participate in parliament.

The EU and the U.S. have called on Tbilisi to conduct an objective investigation of the elections to verify “serious suspicions” of fraud.
