YEREVAN. – The year 2011 stood out by the fact that it was more forbearing and united, thanks to Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan, National Assembly (NA) Deputy Speaker and the ruling coalition’s Republican Party of Armenia spokesperson Eduard Sharmazanov stated, during a press conference on Monday, and added: “In some cases, we witnessed the political opposition’s prudence and correct struggle.”       

Sharmazanov also said: “We recorded certain progress in terms of democratic development. We were able to show two important facts. The first was the political will, by which we resolved many issues through dialogue. And the second was the legislative reforms, by which we were able to reach certain success.”   

NA’s newly-elect Deputy Speaker also noted: “In terms of economy, I would say we are passing from the post-crisis phase to the stabilization phase. Yes, there are problems, but today we have a clear economic growth.”

Eduard Sharmazanov also reflected on foreign policy and stated: “The military-strategic cooperation with the Russian Federation deepened, [and] the agreements in the direction of CIS were important. [Also, French President Nicolas] Sarkozy’s visit to Armenia was important.”
