The main demand of the Syrian Kurds is the preservation of the self-government bodies they created in the northeastern regions of Syria. Mazloum Abdi, commander of the Kurdish coalition, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF),  stated this in an interview with  Rudaw television.

"We want autonomy, regardless of the name. It is important for us that the Kurds independently govern the territory where they live," the Kurdish military leader noted.

Abdi added that he discussed the Kurdish issue within the framework of the Munich Security Conference.

According to Abdi, "the rights of the Kurds and the special status of their regions in Syria are supported by many representatives of the European Union."

"We are currently holding a dialogue with the transitional government in Damascus on a mechanism that will enable us to realize the aspirations of the Kurdish people," said the commander of the SDF.

Abdi was part of a delegation, led by Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Sheibani, that met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on February 13 on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

"During the talks, the role of international powers as guarantors of the implementation of the agreement signed between the Kurds and the Syrian authorities on January 29 was discussed," said Mazloum Abdi.
