Turkish Government intends to open the department of Kurdish philology in its universities. It is another step on the way to Kurdish language recognition. Turkish generals welcomed the initiative which was considered a step to ease the conflict that already killed over 40 000 people. According to Polish RAR daily, Kurds make 20% of Turkish population, however the activities of Kurdish parties are long forbidden, and their rights to culture and language are violated.

Turkish government also decided to publish Koran in Kurdish language, wishing to normalize relations with 12-million Kurdish community. Only the clergy knowing Kurdish will work in Kurdish-settled north Anatolia.

The department of religious affairs decided to conduct Friday prayers in Kurdish. According to Radikal daily, the department plans to create own TV channel that will broadcast in Kurdish language. Information on Kurdish will also be available on websites of department and muftis of various regions. The daily reports that similar steps will be undertaken in respect of other ethnic minorities if needed.
