Armenian Government made a decision on Thursday to open an Embassy in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (seat: Addis Ababa).

The issue was presented by Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, who noted that diplomatic relations were established between Armenia and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in 1993.

“Ethiopia is currently a rapidly growing state, which is registering a rise in international relations. Addis Ababa is one of the main political centers of the African continent, with the headquarters of the African Union, and all African states are members of the African Union without exception,” he said.

According to him, the establishment of the Armenian diplomatic mission in Addis Ababa will significantly regulate and intensify Armenian contacts in view of the potential economic prospects of the trans-Saharan African states and the support of over 50 continental states on various international platforms

The establishment of an embassy in Addis Ababa will give Armenia the opportunity not only to establish close bilateral relations with Ethiopia, but also to deepen contacts and cooperation with other African states.

Moreover, the establishment of the Armenian diplomatic representation in Ethiopia will enable the development of co-operation with the African Union.
