Israeli Defense Minister summoned military leaders and heads of the country's security structures in Tel Aviv after a US air strike, which killed the influential Iranian Major General Qasem Soleimani, Reuters reported.

Israeli Army Radio reported that the country's armed forces were put on high alert amid fears that Iran might strike through its regional allies after the assassination of Soleimani.

Amid Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to Greece, Defense Minister Naftali Bennett gathered senior commanders on Friday morning for a 'situational assessment', ministry officials said.

Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee said on Twitter the Mount Hermon ski resort - which lies in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights close to the fortified frontier with Syria - had been closed “following an assessment of the situation.”

Israeli media reported that the ministers were asked not to publicly comment on the killing of Qasem Soleimani.
