South Korean President Moon Jae-in, speaking at a meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) on Sunday, called on North Korea to stop creating tension in the region, TASS reported, citing the Yonhap news agency.

The South Korean leader's statement was made in the wake of North Korea's latest missile launch.

The head of state said another missile launch from North Korea is a challenge to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, as well as the diplomatic efforts of the international community to establish a dialogue with the DPRK. He said that the launch violated the relevant UN Security Council resolution.

In addition, the South Korean leader stated that the DPRK is getting closer to abandoning its moratorium on nuclear testing by launching ballistic missiles.

Earlier, the Yonhap news agency reported that North Korea launched an unidentified projectile from Chagang province. The South Korean Chiefs of Staff Committee said it was monitoring the corresponding movements on DPRK territory.
