The statements by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, are ill-advised, disconnected from the logic of negotiations, and not at all allied and partnership-based. This was stated by spokesperson Vahan Hunanyan of the foreign ministry of Armenia—and in response to Sputnik Armenia's inquiry.

"They [i.e.,  the aforesaid statements] call into question the member-state obligations signed by him [i.e., Lukashenko] within the framework of the CSTO," Hunanyan added.

At the special session of the CSTO on October 28, Lukashenko had stated that Azerbaijan was not an enemy or opponent for the CSTO member states, and it would not be right to oppose the CSTO to Azerbaijan. He had emphasized that Azerbaijan was now headed absolutely by "our man, Ilham Aliyev." The President of Belarus had added that both Azerbaijan and Armenia are "close" countries for Belarus, and the conflict between these two countries should be settled in an absolutely peaceful way.

And during his meeting Tuesday with CSTO General Secretary Stanislav Zas in Minsk, Lukashenko said that he had long offered options for a peaceful settlement of the conflict between Baku and Yerevan, but Armenia did not agree to them, and therefore the president of Azerbaijan had been left with no other choice but using force.
