Iran refuted the U.S. accusation of supplying explosives to Yemen, the Iranian delegation to the UN said on Friday, citing the Islamic Republic of Iran's permanent mission to the country.
The diplomatic mission noted that Tehran has always been committed to UN Security Council Resolution 2216 on the arms embargo on Yemen, and added that Iran has never taken and will not take measures that violate the resolution.
On Tuesday, the U.S. Armed Forces Central Command (CENTCOM) detained a ship in the Gulf of Oman that CENTCOM claimed was carrying explosives from Iran to Yemen.
In Yemen, the standoff between government forces and the Ansar Allah (Houthis) rebel movement, which controls the capital Sanaa, has been ongoing since August 2014. It reached its most active phase with the invasion of the country in March 2015 by the Saudi-led coalition.
