Moroccan lawmakers voted unanimously to review relations with the European Parliament, accusing it of interference after passing a resolution calling on the kingdom to respect press freedom, AFP reported.

In a statement after the meeting, Moroccan lawmakers called the European resolution an unacceptable attack on the sovereignty, dignity and independence of the kingdom's judicial institutions. They said the move seriously damaged fundamental trust between them.

As a result, the Moroccan parliament decided to review its relationship with the European Parliament and present it for a general evaluation, said House Speaker Rachid Talbi Alami without elaborating.

Under the 1996 agreement, Morocco and the European Union were linked by close economic and trade relations, especially in agriculture and fisheries.

European lawmakers in Strasbourg called on Morocco to respect freedom of speech and freedom of the media.
