Speaker Alen Simonyan of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia on Monday received a delegation led by chair Harris Georgiades of the Cyprus-Armenia Inter-Parliamentary Committee on Cooperation, the NA informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Simonyan expressed his gratitude for one more resolution unanimously adopted by the House of Representatives of Cyprus a few days ago, which condemns the large-scale aggression unleashed against the Nagorno-Karabakh people and the policy of Armenian ethnic cleansing by Azerbaijan.

Also, he lauded the keynote speech by president Annita Demetriou of the House of Representatives of Cyprus within the framework of the European Conference of the Presidents of Parliaments of the Council of Europe held in Dublin on September 28, where the crimes being committed against the Nagorno-Karabakh people were voiced, and was called on to the international community to take steps for preventing ethnic cleansing.

At the meeting, humanitarian problems regarding our compatriots forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh were discussed. The Cypriot parliamentarians noted that they are led by the symbol of solidarity towards Armenia, and they are ready to support our country as much as possible. According to the aforesaid committee chair, Armenia and Cyprus have the same challenges and with pacifism are also the same, thus, they are more sensible towards each other’s pain

During the meeting, bilateral agenda items of the legislative bodies also were discussed, and both sides highlighted the important role of the parliamentary committees on cooperation functioning in parliaments.
