Anton Hofreiter, Chairman of the Committee on European Union Affairs of the German Bundestag (parliament, has called on the European Union (EU) to impose sanctions against Azerbaijan.

"The [natural] gas supply contracts with Azerbaijan should be reviewed immediately," Hofreiter told the Table.Media portal.

According to him, the EU must quickly make a decision on punitive measures against Azerbaijan.

"We must not repeat the mistakes of our relations with Russia and become dependent on autocracy only to stand aside until the autocracy brutally attacks the people," the German MP said, referring to the natural gas supplies agreed with Azerbaijan.

Also, Anton Hofreiter called to increase the EU mission on location in order to protect the Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians.
