A review of the Google Earth satellite map photos taken in June 2023 enables to say that Azerbaijan has considerably damaged the natural and cultural landscapes of a number of settlements in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), reports Monument Watch, which monitors the Armenian cultural heritage of Artsakh.

As an example, this time they singled out the Hadrut region’s Taghut village, where about 25% of the once-Armenian houses seen in the 2019 satellite photos have been demolished now. The damage to these houses is a consequence of widespread looting by Azerbaijanis in this occupied villages of Artsakh. This looting is carried out primarily by Azerbaijani military personnel serving in the area, a small number of resettled people, as well as construction groups with access to these areas. This is evidenced by hundreds of videos of looting, demolition, and intentional damage to once-Armenian property in the territory of Artsakh. This phenomenon can be seen in most settlements of Artsakh.

The looting and destruction of once-Armenian civilian settlements, houses, and educational and cultural infrastructure in Taghut village by Azerbaijan during the war in 2020 and throughout the current occupation is a series of combined crimes, violating both international norms for the protection of heritage in times of war and customary rules.
