YEREVAN. – As a result of the local self-government elections that were held Sunday in Armenia’s five regions, ruling Republican Party (RPA)-member Bagrat Harutyunyan is elected mayor in Martuni city of Gegharkunik Region, Central Electoral Commission press service informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.    

In addition, non-party affiliate Gurgen Martirosyan has won in Gavar city of the aforesaid region, sole candidates—and RPA members—Yurik Avalyan and Rudik Ghukasyan are elected mayors in Chambarak and Sevan cities respectively, and RPA member Volodya Khloyan has won in Vardenis city.  

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, local self-government elections were conducted Sunday in 318 communities of Armenia’s Aragatsotn, Gegharkunik, Kotayk, Vayots Dzor, and Tavush regions. Also, solely one international organization—the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe—and fifteen local NGOs are conducting observation missions during this election process.
