YEREVAN. – Democratic Party of Armenia (DPA) Chairman Aram Sargsyan has no intentions of running in the presidential elections slated for next February, Sargsyan himself stated this during a press conference on Tuesday.

The format for DPA’s participation in these elections will be discussed at the party’s forthcoming congress. “But I’m not preparing to nominate my candidacy,” Sargsyan noted, and expressed a hope that his fellow party members will understand him.  

Responding to the query that, in this case, which political force DPA will support, Aram Sargsyan pointed to the absence of an ideological commonality with the main political players.     

In his words, Armenia’s incumbent President has a real opportunity to show that something is being done. There are numerous problems, and real measures are in need, the DPA leader recalled, and added:   

“[But] If measures are taken by the year’s end to resolve the problems, I don’t rule out [the possibility] that DPA’s preference will be in that direction.”
