YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Consumer Confidence Index constituted 46.5 percent in the third quarter of 2012, and this is a 4.5-percent reduction as compared with the same time period last year, the Central Bank reports.
This index comprises an average arithmetical change based on questions posed to consumers. The Consumer Confidence Index is made up of the Current Conditions Index—that is, questions referring to the current conditions—and the Future Conditions Index—i.e., questions on the future.
Armenia’s Current Conditions Index is 40.6 percent, and this means more than half of the respondents do not yet positively assess their current condition. But the Future Conditions Index is 52.3 percent, and this shows that, in general, the people have maintained their optimism toward the future.
In addition, 53.4 percent stated that it made big purchases in the third quarter of 2012, whereas 54.4 percent is preparing to make big purchases in the future.
