YEREVAN. – The official registration for Armenian National Assembly MP candidates has begun Monday for the majority by-elections to be held at capital city Yerevan’s Electoral District No.1 and at Gyumri city’s Electoral District No.35. The MP hopefuls may submit their respective applications no later than October 18 at 6pm.

To note, the MP seat from Gyumri’s Electoral District No.35 had become vacant because Samvel Balasanyan was elected Mayor of Gyumri, and the MP mandate from Yerevan’s Electoral District No.1 had become vacant because Ruben Hayrapetyan had renounced his parliamentary seat because of a fatal incident that occurred in the capital’s Harsnaqar Restaurant Complex which he owns.

Both by-elections will be held on December 2.

At Electoral District No.1, the ruling Republican Party (RPA) will nominate Robert Sargsyan, the brother-in-law of Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan. Opposition Heritage Party Administration Secretary and former MP Stiopa Safaryan likewise announced about his nomination.

At Electoral District No.35, RPA will nominate businessman Arman Sahakyan.
