STEPANAKERT. – Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR)—or Artsakh—President Bako Sahakyan on Monday received Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) President Berj Setrakian and AGBU Armenia Chapter Director Ashot Ghazarian, and discussed matters related to carrying out a variety of programs in the NKR.

Subsequently, the meeting continued in an extended format and with participation by close to one hundred AGBU representatives.

Bako Sahakyan introduced the current phase of and the prospects for Nagorno-Karabakh’s socioeconomic development and touched upon several foreign policy issues.

According to the President, the AGBU is among the oldest Armenian organizations that play an invaluable role in maintaining Armenian national identity in the Diaspora, international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide, and objective presentation of the Karabakh issue. As per Sahakyan, the organization also has a tangible input in strengthening the Armenia-Karabakh-Diaspora trinity and boosting the socioeconomic development of the Motherland.

NKR President noted that Nagorno-Karabakh intends to deepen ties and expand cooperation with the AGBU and everything possible will be done in this direction.

At the end of the meeting the President responded to the questions posed by the attendees.

Primate of the Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church Archbishop Pargev Martirosyan, and several NKR officials likewise attended the event.
