YEREVAN. – The more Armenia’s presidential elections draw near, the political forces’ positions become that much more clear, the coalition government’s junior partner Orinats Yerkir (Rule of Law) Party (RLP) MP Hovhannes Margaryan stated during a press conference on Friday.   

“The last time, the political forces clarified their position much earlier. This is in the interests of the voters, too, because they decide on whom to vote for,” Margaryan stressed, and noted that they attach an importance to the presidential elections, since the body politic pins hopes on them.    

As per the MP, there are three political spectrums in Armenia at present: the authorities, the opposition, and the alternative—i.e., the Prosperous Armenia Party. “And our [that is, the RLP’s] position is clear. We will support incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan’s candidacy [in February’s voting],” he noted.  

Speaking on the proposal to pass to parliamentary governance in Armenia, Hovhannes Margaryan said no political force has yet invited them to take part in the respective consultations, but they respect such processes. In his words, however, they favor a phased option to this matter.
