After appointing Nihat Omeroglu as Turkey’s Human Rights Defender, the country’s parliament now selected the five members of the Ombudsman Council.
And just as Nihat Omeroglu, who was one of the eighteen judges at the Turkish Court of Appeals that upheld the shameful sentence given to Hrant Dink—the founder and chief editor of Istanbul’s Agos Armenian bilingual weekly, who was gunned down in 2007 in front of his office building—, Muhittin Mihcak, who is selected as one the five members of the aforementioned council, likewise was among those eighteen notorious judges.
To note, the Turkish parliament on November 27 selected Nihat Omeroglu as the country’s Human Rights Defender, and this development caused a huge reaction among Turkey’s progressive society.
