Russia’s Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu was elected chairman of the CIS Council of Defense Minister. The decision was made during the 63rd session of theCouncil held in Moscow.

The Voice of Russia reported Azerbaijani Minister Safar Abiyev offered to nominate Shoygu.

The chairman is elected for three years. Defense Ministers from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Ukraine as well as Deputy Defense Minister of Uzbekistan, are participating in the work of the session. The participants will sum up the activities and will confirm the program for 2013.
