YEREVAN. – Prosperous Armenia Party leader Gagik Tsarukyan’s decision to not run in next February’s presidential elections was not unexpected for me, Democratic Party of Armenia (DPA) Chairman Aram Sargsyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“I assume he [that is, Tsarukyan] cares more about business and capital than political objectives. That is why such turnabout was not unexpected for me,” Sargsyan noted.

As per the DPA leader, the uproar and the calculations with respect to Gagik Tsarukyan’s running for president were not justified, and the forthcoming elections will lose intrigue once and for all when second President Robert Kocharyan likewise announces that he will not run for this office again. The matter could be resolved within the next two or three days.

In Aram Sargsyan’s view, what’s most important is what will follow the elections. “That is the start of the [incumbent] President’s [that is, Serzh Sargsyan’s] second tenure. So, it is indispensable to seriously prepare for the next presidential and parliamentary elections,” the Democratic Party of Armenia leader stated.
