YEREVAN. – The remaining drugs, which were sent to Armenia as humanitarian relief and to eliminate the consequences of the 1988 earthquake, need to be destroyed.   

To this end, the Government adopted a decision Thursday to allocate AMD 18 million (approx. $44,380) to the Ministry of Health which, in its turn, will donate this amount to the “National Centre for Humanitarian Aid” organization.

These expired medicines are kept at the storage area of this organization and in the metal containers located in the nearby plot of land. The total volume of these drugs is about 300 cubic meters.   

All these medications are kept under the same condition, and they were subjected to various weather effects for years, whereas some of them are located in areas of common use.  

As a result, further storage of these medicines under such conditions was considered hazardous for people and the environment.
