YEREVAN. – Absence of the individual candidates of Armenia’s other political parties is not the problem of the ruling Republican Party (RPA), its MP Hovhannes Sahakyan said Thursday during a press conference devoted to the country’s presidential elections to be held in February 2013.  

“I don’t wish to make a personal assessment on anyone. [But] There are parties that have a huge track-record of engagement in the public life of the country. [And] If they don’t have a candidate that best reflects the position of the party in the elections, they themselves need to think about that, not RPA. We don’t want to answer in lieu of others,” Sahakyan stated.          

At the same time he noted that refraining from the elections does not mean boycotting them. “No political force has stated about a loss of trust and the meaninglessness of its participation in the election. The statements that are made solely speak about not nominating its own candidate,” Hovhannes Sahakyan said.
