ANKARA. – The Turkish FM Ahmet Davutoglu will rather resign than shake the President of Syria Bashar al-Assad’s hand, he said at a conference on the Syrian issue in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Touching upon the Kurds in Syria, Davutoglu said that they have nothing against the Kurds there, while they do have claims against the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD), which has close contacts with Assad and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), Turkish Milliyet informs.

“We do not fight against Kurds in the Middle East, at the same time we improved relations with the Kurds in Northern Iraq in the midst of new developments in that country. We wish that Kurds played an important role in Syria, however, we are against the PYD, as it cooperates with the ruling authorities and does not break relations with the PKK,” Davutoglu said.
