YEREVAN. – The political opposition of Armenia faces a dilemma nowadays, ruling Republican Party (RPA) spokesperson—and National Assembly (NA) Deputy Speaker—Eduard Sharmazanov stated during a press conference on Wednesday. 

In his words, if the opposition runs in the presidential elections in February, it will receive 7-10 percent of votes, and if it does not take part in the voting, this will mean the end of its political career.    

Responding to the observation that there might not be any strong candidates in the coming elections, Sharmazanov urged not to look for a black cat in a dark room. “We have a very bad political custom: when something fails, we attempt to blame others,” he stressed.       

And with respect to the nomination of unknown candidates, the NA deputy speaker assured that there have never been artificial elements in the practices of RPA and President—and RPA leader—Serzh Sargsyan alike. “Politics should not be turned into comedy,” Eduard Sharmazanov added.
