YEREVAN. – In an interview with news reporters, opposition bloc Armenian National Congress (ANC) National Assembly Faction leader, and ANC Coordinator, Levon Zurabyan did not rule out the possibility of boycotting the presidential elections to be held next February. That is to say, ANC likewise is contemplating not running in the elections. But this is perhaps natural because ANC’s prospects, in terms of running in the elections, are not too great, Zhamanak daily reports. 

“ANC leader [and First President Levon] Ter-Petrosyan’s running [for president again] is unbeneficial, since he is very pragmatic and he envisions that he will record a worse result than in [the] 2008 [presidential voting]. And if he nominates someone else, this could further deepen the internal conflicts of ANC.

Under these conditions, not running [in the forthcoming elections] becomes the most optimal choice. Also, this will mean that the Congress has lost hope of a clandestine support from [the Prosperous Armenia Party] PAP thinking that the PAP constituents will go to ANC,” Zhamanak writes.
